The Baikalian Oilfish Project was an independent, student-run scientific expedition to Lake Baikal in Siberia, Russia, which took place in August and September 2008.
Our aim was to study the Baikalian ecosystems with focus on the endemic and unique fish species Comephorus baicalensis and Comephorus dybowskii (commonly called Golomyanka), which finalised with great success and gave rise to a scientific publication co-authored together with the Limnological Institute in Irkutsk.
Along the course of the expedition we have also explored the wonders of Russia and its rich culture, which you can see for yourself in our Gallery!
Once again we would like to thank for the support of the members of the Limnological Institute, together with The Explorers Club and the James Rennie Bequest award, without which this project would never go forward! Visit our picture gallery!
